We're a community of artists, makers, dreamers, and weirdos who come together every year to create something extraordinary in the Nevada desert. Star Sailor Art is our nonprofit umbrella — the enduring thread that connects our evolving camp identities and art projects.
What We're About
🎨 Art First
Every year we build something. Sometimes it's a massive installation, sometimes it's an immersive experience. Always weird, always wonderful.
🤝 Community
We cap at 20 members because we'd rather know everyone well than have a crowd. Deep connections over large numbers.
🔥 Participation
Everyone contributes. Build art, cook meals, lead events, tear down. There are no spectators at Star Sailor.
🏠 The Stoop
The heart of every Star Sailor camp is the stoop — where late-night conversations happen, plans are hatched, and friendships deepen.
What a Burn Looks Like With Us
Before: We start planning months out. Theme development, art builds, meal planning, logistics. Everyone pitches in based on what they're good at and what they want to learn.
Build Week: Early crew arrives to set up shade structures, the kitchen, art installations, and camp infrastructure. This is when the magic starts — watching a patch of desert become home.
The Burn: We run interactivity events for the broader community, maintain our space, cook communal meals, and explore Black Rock City together. Night shifts at our art, sunrise bike rides, deep playa adventures.
Strike: Leave No Trace means MOOP sweeps, teardown, and restoration. The playa should look like we were never there.

Analog optics meets digital art — infinite geometric portals.
Cognitive Research Institute
A Soviet-era memory destruction facility. Currently active.
